A Message From Our President

The Pembroke Pickleball Club’s Mission is to promote the sport of pickleball in Pembroke and area as a fun, healthy, recreational and competitive activity played year round through providing affordable play for all skill levels. Membership is open to the 18+ population. Sessions are offered several days of the week both during the day and on some evenings. Play outdoors is at the Kinsmen Athletic Courts and indoors at the Pembroke Pentecostal Tabernacle Church and the Knights of Columbus Hall. As a Club we put a focus on being physically active, using pickleball as recreation, as a sport, and as a wholesome way to meet and interact with people.

Building on a history of commitment to growing Pickleball in the community, the present Board is a dynamic group of individuals hard at work to make the Club the best it can be and to meet the needs of its members. We welcome your ideas and comments especially on what we could improve as well as compliments. I’m proud to be a part of this Board and thank them for their efforts, passion, and commitment.

Board Meeting Highlights

July 10, 2024

Hello members:

The board met on July 10, 2024. Lots of work is happening to get ready for fall and our new indoor season. Here are board highlights. As usual Board minutes will be posted on the Bulletin Board at the Church.

Work on a Club website is underway with a plan to have the website  up and running before the end of August.

Michael Engler , Club Treasurer, will assume Board oversight of the Club’s indoor and outdoor programs effective Sept 1,2024.

A decision on the Church Gym floor has been reached after significant research.  It has been advised that we do minimal repairs this year, leaving the surface as it is and continuing the floor care processes we are using now.

Minor tile repairs on floors will be done by the Church starting July 13 – July 19 inclusive when painting is also planned.

The Church has changed the Club’s time slots for indoor play for the fall.  Pastor Paul Perry has advised Mondays during the day will not be available but we are getting Friday as a replacement.  The most up to date draft schedule will be sent out with membership offers in August.

Work on Club documents such as Constitution, Bylaws and supporting policies, outlines for roles and duties of Club board members continues and will be presented at a members meeting as a package once fully completed.

Consistent scheduling guidelines for sessions (as was identified in member consultations) have   been completed for the upcoming fall sessions so that there is consistency in waitlisting, size of sessions and timeframes for posting. We will be adopting a central scheduling system to maximize efficiency. These guidelines have been approved and will be sent out as part of the membership package. They will be consistent with all other clubs of our size.

A duties outline for session captains is being worked on to help those new to the role or those thinking about it.This draft document will be taken to a meeting with session captains to get input. We always need volunteers to help in sessions and not overburden any one person. It will be great to have more volunteers  involved with the club especially in the role of session captain.

The biggest focus at the Board meeting was approval of final documents to go out for membership offers for the new season that begins Sept 1, 2024.

Since many are wanting more information on membership fees and roll out of registration packages this poster is being made available including a question and answer section.
